Ho Chi Minh wrote the book on how to defeat the U.S. Apparently politicians in this country never read it. But, tyrants around the globe paid attention. Vladimir Putin is a student of history. He knows the rule is to fight until the other side wants to talk, and then to repeat your demands over and over until they tire of talking, then fight until they want to talk again--and repeat the routine until you get what you want. As for the fighting itself, the West counts its dead. Your own losses don't matter because the West will give up long before you run out of fighters. Putin won in Chechnya, in Georgia and in Crimea. Negotiation starts with the status quo, with everybody keeping what they've got. So, negotiation means he's already won in Eastern Ukraine and is planning his next conquest. Moldova? Bulgaria? Lithuania?
